Description | | Excellent, effective educators often notice and
tap into the Teachable Moment… but do we recognize the Unteachable Moment, when
tempers and emotions run hot and things seem to erupt out of control? Let’s
take a look at what happens inside the brain that causes children to be physically unable to learn in that
unteachable moment. We will also identify helpful strategies to return a child, and
ourselves, to a state of calm where we can teach children the consequences of
their behavior and positive problem-solving techniques.
Based on the article by Kirsten Haugen, “The Unteachable
Moment: Lessons from the Neuroscience of Stress, Conflict, and (Mis)behavior” as
well as the teachings of Dr Becky Bailey’s Conscious Discipline and Emotional Poverty by Ruby
Payne, PhD. |
