DescriptionEarly childhood environmental education:
...  serves children from birth to age eight—infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary students and
...  focuses on whole-child development, using rich experiences with nature to promote all of the domains of development.

The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) created a set of guidelines for the development of balanced, scientifically accurate, and comprehensive environmental education programs and materials including one specifically designed for early childhood programs. The Early Childhood Environmental Education Programs: Guidelines for Excellence comprises a set of recommendations for developing early childhood environmental education programs or informing improvements in existing ones.

Through a series of interactive activities and discussions, participants in this workshop will explore the six key characteristics of high-quality, early childhood environmental education programs as described in this guide. This workshop is appropriate for people new to environmental education as well as experienced educators. Participants will receive an Early Childhood Environmental Education Programs: Guidelines for Excellence guidebook.
